"Mantis One has been holding it down in the SF hip hop scene for a minute now. Originally coming through BAVC youth programs back in 2008 as a young rapper and producer, Mantis returned to us this year as a veteran artist with multiple independent releases and countless live performances under his belt. His goal in joining the BUMP Records roster was to release a solo project with a slightly different focus than his usual material. The result, Cyclops Mewzik, sees him exploring new lyrical territory, training the eye of a hardened Tenderloin street poet onto not just the reality of the world he knows, but the causes of why things are the way they are. It’s political; it’s dangerous; it’s fearless; it’s a completely true story. Oh yeah, it also sounds REALLY good."
